   Atomic Energy Committee of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan is an assign of the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan established in September 1992.

     In accordance with its Provisions, the Committee is implementing supervision and control functions in the field of safety and security at peaceful use of atomic energy. Thus, main objectives of the Committee include regulation of safety and security, supervision of nuclear safety and security, radiation safety, and also provision of nuclear weapon non-proliferation regime at activities connected with use of atomic energy.

     State licensing of these activities, which is being implemented by the Committee, is one of instruments for regulation of safety and security in nuclear activities in Kazakhstan. Aim of the licensing is to provide that a licensee meets all regulatory and legal requirements, fulfill norms and rules of safety and security in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy.

     Licensing of activities connected with use of atomic energy is mandatory, and activities in this field without appropriate license is inflicted penalty by the state.
